Synthetic organic chemist
Job Type: Full-time
Location: Fredericton, NB, Canada
Tentative Start Date: November 2, 2020
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
 
DE Synthetics is seeking an energetic, conscientious, and creative synthetic organic chemist to be part of a fast paced but well-balanced research atmosphere contributing to high value medicinal and process chemistry efforts.
 
Primary Duties:
  • Multi-step organic synthesis within specified timelines to enable the advancement of medicinal chemistry projects.
  • Process research to enable efficient and scalable syntheses.
  • Troubleshooting, optimization, and scale-up of synthetic transformations.
  • Development and implementation of novel synthetic routes.
  • Analysis, characterization, and identification of chemical products via NMR, HPLC, and mass spectrometry.
  • Writing of progress updates and reports.
  • Maintenance of a clean, organized, and safe laboratory setting.
  • Compliance to confidentiality agreements.
 
Required or Preferred Skills:
  • Excellent practical skills in the lab particular to multi-step organic synthesis are a must.
  • Good problem solving abilities.
  • Experience with heterocyclic chemistry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently set up reactions, monitor their progress by chromatographic techniques, isolate and purify products (such as by column chromatography) are absolutely required.
  • Experience using, maintaining, and trouble-shooting Agilent HPLC / LCMS instruments would be assets.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to complete work within defined timelines.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
 
Qualifications:
  • PhD or MSc in synthetic organic chemistry, or BSc with extensive relevant experience.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical scale-up or process chemistry is preferred.
